B and E period: music/speaking/writing assignment: TRL

TRL Assignment

Back in the 1990’s, TRL or Total Request Live has been a show on MTV in which people advocated and then voted for their favorite music to be played.

TRL in English 10 is a multi-part assignment involving writing about, talking about, listening to and writing about again your music.

Part 1:  Determine your favorite, MOST MEANINGFUL, song.
In a 1 page home work assignment explain the following:
  • your personal connection to the song,
  • what makes the song unique and special,
  • musical aspects of the song (e.g. instrumentation, melody, lyrics, etc.)
  • why the whole class should listen to your song

Part 2:  Be prepared to read and present your homework about your song in class
(White Day 4/8, Green Day 4/7)

Part 3:  After the individual advocacy period, the class will decide which music to play in class

Part 4:  In-class written response to the song, similar to the homework.

Part 5:  Revision of your original writing in Part 1; this time in MLA format (headings, typed double-space, 1 inch margins)
